Leadership of our Church

…And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers,to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ… Eps. 4:11-12

Sergey Minka

Lead Pastor of Word Of Life Church

Sergey Minka was born in Kharkiv (Ukraine) in 1974 into a Christian family. His parents were active in the local independent Baptist church: his father, Ivan Tikhonovich, was a deacon, and his mother, Maria Grigoryevna, taught in Sunday school.

In May 1985, when Sergey was 11 years old, the Lord called him to repentance. During one of the youth evening meetings, Sergey realized his sinfulness and lost condition. God opened his heart to understand and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Although he had heard the Gospel many times before, on that day Sergey consciously confessed his faith in Christ's redemptive sacrifice for the first time.

In September 1987, he was baptized in water at the local church. In 1994, the Minka family emigrated to the USA and settled in Spokane (Washington state), where they immediately became actively involved in serving at the Slavic church. Sergey was entrusted with leading the youth ministry. In 2000, he graduated from university in Washington, receiving a degree as a Registered Nurse, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN, BSN).

In 2005, Sergey moved to Greenville, South Carolina, to study at Bob Jones Seminary. For five years, he pursued a Master of Arts in Pastoral Theology program. In 2013, the Baptist church in Spartanburg called Sergey to pastoral ministry. Today, Sergey continues to serve as a pastor along with other ministers of our church. He and his wife Olga are raising two sons, Joseph and Dominic, and a daughter Evelina.
